Jesus Seeks the One

My worst mark ever was 13 %. It was a year 8 maths test on ‘base’ numbers. I never could work them out. I figure if you can
count to ten, why make things more complicated? But if you think my math’s is bad, how bad is Jesus’?
In Luke 15, Jesus mentions a noble shepherd who leaves his flock of 99 and races off to find the one ‘free-range’ sheep. He can’t
be serious, can he? No one leaves the 99 to chase after one. If you’ve got 99 why stress about the one? In the same breath he
tells of a woman who searches for one coin and a father who waits for one son.
When you turn to the back of the book for the answer – which we all do – you discover that Jesus is teaching mathematics
kingdom of God style. If you’re a sheep with the wanders – and we are – Jesus searches for you, the one. He seeks you no matter
what the risk or how poor the return. It is a kingdom where God generously gives us not what we deserve but what we need –
forgiveness and a fresh start.
Do you seek the greatest good for the greatest number? Jesus seeks the one.
Who we are
Jesus is at the centre of all we do—and has been since our first services in 1872! We believe that the beauty, goodness and truth of Jesus are the balm our broken world needs today.
