Celebration Launch for Paul Barnett's New Book: 13 Oct. 2024
With a long investment in biblical scholarship, Bishop Paul Barnett, 88, is about to see his 36th – or is it 37th? – book published. With many still in print and earning Barnett a reputation as one of the world’s foremost New Testament scholars, the former Sydney Anglican Bishop is living out what he says was the best advice he received as a young man: to value learning.
Barnett’s latest book The Trials of Jesus: Evidence, Conclusions, and Aftermath, published in paperback and e-book by American publisher, Wm B Eerdmans Publishing, is born from a set of questions he’s wrestled with for years: why was Jesus interrogated so many times? Why were there four different trials? Why did the Romans – and not the high priests – execute Christ?
The book follows Jesus’s arrest to his crucifixion, including interactions with several high priests, a confrontation with Herod the Tetrarch, and even Pontius Pilate’s hesitancy about Jesus’s execution. It is, as the publisher’s description calls it, “the story behind the Passion, Resurrection, and the subsequent birth of the church.”
Christ Church will celebrate Paul’s new book with a book launch, Sunday 13 Oct 2024, 11:30am-12:30 pm just after morning tea. Books will be available for purchase.
